Safety
The BMW M3 has Daytime Running Lights to help keep it more visible under all conditions. Canadian government studies show that driving with lights during the day reduces accidents by 11% by making vehicles more conspicuous. The XF doesn't offer Daytime Running Lights.
The M3 offers optional BMW Assist, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get driving directions, remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it's stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The XF doesn't offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies.
Both the M3 and the XF have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control and electronic stability systems to prevent skidding.
Warranty
The M3's corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the XF's (12 vs. 6 years).
There are over 2 times as many BMW dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier to get service under the M3's warranty.
Reliability
A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without their vehicle while it's being repaired. Consumer Reports predicts that the M3's reliability will be 120% better than the XF.
J.D. Power and Associates' 2010 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that BMW vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks BMW 16th in initial quality. With 17 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 28th.

Tires and Wheels
For better traction and acceleration, the M3 has larger standard rear tires than the XF (265/35R19 vs. 235/35R20).
The M3's standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the XF's standard 45 series tires.
Suspension and Handling
The M3 Sedan handles at .95 G's, while the XF Luxury pulls only .79 G's of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.
The M3 Sedan goes through Road & Track's slalom 6.8 MPH faster than the XFR (72.9 vs. 66.1 MPH).
Chassis
The BMW M3 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 150 to 350 pounds less than the Jaguar XF.
The M3 Sedan is 1 foot, 2.9 inches shorter than the XF, making the M3 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.
The M3's standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The XF doesn't offer a retractable hardtop.
Passenger Space
The M3 Sedan has 1.4 inches more front headroom, .6 inches more front shoulder room and .8 inches more rear shoulder room than the XF.
Servicing Ease
A Service Interval Indicator is standard on the M3 to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for oil changes, spark plug replacement and vehicle inspection based on actual driving conditions. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Jaguar doesn't offer a maintenance reminder on the XF.
Ergonomics
Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the M3 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The XF doesn't offer heated windshield washer nozzles.
While driving with high-beams on, sensitive light sensors available for the M3 detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low-beams. The XF doesn't offer automatic dimming high-beams.
To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the M3 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The XF doesn't offer cornering lights. The M3 also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.
Model Availability
The BMW M3 comes in coupe, convertible and sedan bodystyles; the Jaguar XF isn't available as a coupe or convertible.
