The all new 2013 BMW 3 Series with BMW xDriveBeginning production in July 2012, the all new 2013 BMW 3 Series sedan will feature the intelligent four-wheel drive system: BMW xDrive. This will mark the first time that the BMW xDrive system will be available on the new sixth generation BMW 3 Series since it's debut in Munich on October 14, 2011. The 328i xDrive model will only be available with an 8-speed automatic transmission, whereas the 335i xDrive model will be available in manual or automatic transmission. The 2013 BMW 328i and 335i with optional BMW xDrive will be available at Schomp BMW in Denver, Colorado later this summer. Schomp BMW is currently taking orders for the 2013 BMW 3 Series with xDrive - a desirable feature during snowy Colorado winters or while cruising through the Rocky Mountains any time of year.
About the BMW xDrive SystemFirst appearing in 2003 on the new BMW X3 model, BMW xDrive is an intelligent four-wheel drive system provides torque split between the front and rear axles through the use of a multi-plate wet clutch located in the gearbox on the output of the front drive shaft. This setup allows xDrive to modulate the torque split between the front and the rear. If wheel slip was detected by the ABS/DSC system, xDrive will react quickly to adjust torque bias. What does this mean? Basically power distribution of BMW xDrive is affected so rapidly that the vehicle is stabilized before the driver even notices the need to react.
